The Ark of the covenant was a symbol of God's presence and glory. The presence of the Ark had a profound effect on everything It came into contact with. In the hands of God's covenant people it brought victories, opened the Jordan River, knocked over the God Dagon, and smote the Philistines. It was called the chest of the covenant of the Lord. In the New Testament Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament type and shadow. Everything that happened in the journeying of the Ark in the old covenant was but a picture of what Jesus did in his redemptive work. We are now a part of the priesthood that is carrying this Ark of the covenant, this mobile mercy seat. This series addresses how a corrupt priesthood lost the glory under Saul and Eli, a type of the old covenant. Under David and Samuel, a type of the new covenant, the glory is restored. The glory was restored in Acts 15 with the restoration of the tabernacle of David, and continues to be restored as this priesthood after the order of Melchizedek carries the message of grace and mercy.
