For far too many, the abundant life that was promised seems to be elusive, or it is postponed until you get to Heaven. However, Jesus himself declared, “I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” Of course, that includes Heaven, but the Scripture also declares in the book of Deuteronomy, that God wants to give us as the days of Heaven on earth. This abundant life should be the light that attracts people to God. In this book, we will explore the seven times in the gospel of John that Jesus says, "I Am." Every time He uses that phrase, it is always in contrast to something from the old covenant. For instance, they thought the bread that fell in the wilderness was the true bread, but Jesus says to them, “Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness and are dead, but I Am the true bread.” They thought Moses and the law were the door into the sheepfold, but Jesus said to them, "I Am the door.” They thought the corrupt shepherds of Israel were the true shepherds, but Jesus said, "I Am the Shepherd of the sheep.” They thought that Israel was the true vine, but Jesus said to them, " I Am the vine, you are the branches.” They thought their natural genealogy was the way to the father but Jesus said, "I Am the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus did not come to offer us religion. He came to offer a relationship. A personal and intimate relationship with Him that will produce the abundant life. The gospel is not about a law you must keep. It’s about receiving a life that will keep you. As you read the pages of this book, you will truly discover that faith replaces fear, and that through believing you will have life through His name. You will surely rediscover that Jesus removed the covenant of death and replaced it with the covenant of life. You will, without a doubt, rediscover that He is “The Great I Am.”
